Plexus Experimental Art & Science and Technology Events
Over the years, sperimental communication and digital art exchanges have been explored within the Plexus art journey.
On 4 July 1987, before the advent of the internet, at the Art Co-Opera "Serpente di Pietra" in Gavoi, Sardinia, digital exchanges occurred via the Bitnet network between the Dax Group of Carnegie Mellon University and the Physics Department of the University of Cagliari, to celebrate freedom in art and communication, on the 100 years of the Electomagnetism of H. Hertz.
With 160 participant artists from 23 nationalities
1988, within the Art-Opera "Il Viaggio del Serpente", at the New York University Bobst Library, New York, experimental art interactions via fax, computer and telephone were explored with the University of Cagliari Dept. of Physics and the Dax Digital Arts Exchanges Group of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
1989, within the the Art Opera "1992: The Departure of An Art Human Shuttle For Freedom Journeying to the Realm of a New Planet Called Time-Art", at the Institute of Computer Art of the School of Visual Arts, in New York.
George Chaikin dematerialized via scanner an African canoe and tried to transfer its data via online to prof. Franco Meloni at the Dept of Physics of the University of Cagliari, with no success. Therefore, George gave to Sandro Dernini two big computer disks containing the dematerialized canoe data.
Within an art performance by Willem Brugman, Stephen Di Lauro, Isabel, Tania Gherstel, David Boyle, and Antonio Caboni, Sandro Dernini delivered to prof. Franco Meloni and prof. Francesco Aymeric at the Dept of Physics in Cagliari to check if it was possible to re-materialize the African canoe. The art performance continued on board the Elisabeth boat of the captain Carlo Dernini in the port of Carloforte, in the Island of San Pietro, off Sardina.

In 1995, within the "Navigating Global Cultures" project between New York University, the University of Cagliari, and Cooper Union in New York, slow scan motion digital face-to-face exchanges were explored.

2012 Plexus Call Bring Your Light, Rome, with performances in webstreaming
2014, "Cargos Art & Food with no Borders" project in Cairns, Australia, involved hybrid virtual and real events among Cairns, Cagliari, and Rome, with Skype connections to Dakar, Jerusalem, New York, Santa Fe, and Barcelona.
2015, PLEXUS "Cargos Art & Food with no Borders", Centro Culturale Artistico il Lazzaretto, organized by Carovana SMI, hybrid format with skype video connections and performances with Australasian Theatre in Cairns, Atelier d'Art Kre MBaye pour les Enfants de la Medina-Dakar, Comune di Gavoi, Atlanta, New York, Santa Fe, Roma and Gambia.
2018, "The Butterfly – The Return of Art in the Community", Plexus International Open Call Global Digital Art Blockchain, at the Macro – Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, with digitalconnected via skype and webstreaming with the Atelier des Arts des Enfants de la Medina in Dakar, Carovana SMI in Cagliari, the Center for Australasian Theater in Cairns, Australia, and the Rainbow Family in Santa Fe and New York, celebrating together the International Human Day, 10 December.
